A Unique, Patented Filter System for the Production of Large Iron and Steel Castings

This unique filter system is designed for the production of large iron and steel castings.

It has also been successfully used to produce castings in non-ferrous metals.

The carousel is designed to allow the metal to flow tangentially into the channel in front of the UDICELL® filters. A convex surface is incorporated at the top and bottom of the channel to allow for the segregation of lower density particles thus allowing the surface of the filters to be more clean for deep-bed-filtration.

Finally the metal penetrates the filters and exits at the top or bottom of the carousel before entering directly or via a connected refractory gating system into the mould cavity.

A carousel filter system contains 6 UDICELL filters and 6 corner pieces which are easily assembled without the need for refractory adhesive.

* System 6/4Q with 6 UDICELL filters 4x4x1,25"

* System 6/6Q with 6 UDICELL filters 6x6x1,25"

* System 6/8Q with 6 UDICELL filters 8x8x1,5''

Capacities:

Metal fluidity, method of deoxidation and pouring temperature are the main variables which directly affect the flow through filters. The anticipated flow rates for 300 + 400 series stainless steels are as follows:

System 6/3Q 30 – 45 kgs/second

System 6/4Q 60 – 120 kgs/second

System 6/6Q 100 – 180 kgs/second

System 6/8Q 150-300 kgs/second

The total capacity for a single carousel filter is:

System 6/3Q up to 1.000 kgs

System 6/4Q up to 2.000 kgs

System 6/6Q up to 4.000 kgs

System 6/8Q up to 8.000 kgs

The use of multiple filter carousels increases the total capacity of the system allowing much larger castings to be produced. In this application, the system is supplied in right and left hand versions to allow the gating system to be installed symmetrically.
